Monthly Monday Makeover Series
January: The cabinets above the refrigerator
There’s something about the New Year that makes me want to completely redecorate and redesign my house. Perhaps it’s all the time I spend in my home in the last few weeks in December—hosting friends, cooking and baking for the holidays, decorating and taking down decorations—or perhaps it’s that a new year brings a desire for new things. Whatever it is, I have the bug. Unfortunately for me, my post-holiday budget doesn’t quite match up to my decorating dreams. And so, I redecorate by repurposing what I already have. One place I spent a ton of time in December, for obvious reasons, was my kitchen. We have developed this terrible habit in my house of placing groceries—cereal boxes and the like—on top of the refrigerator. Drives. Me. Crazy. I hate that it looks sloppy and cluttered. Not only that, but there are two good-sized cabinets above our fridge that go completely to waste. There has to be a better way, I said to myself. So, I headed where all fabulous home designers go—Pinterest! Using a few pins for “Pinspiration”, I decided to make the cabinets above my fridge into display cabinets and banish the cereal boxes to the pantry.
