It’s that time of year again! Are you moving soon, or know someone who is? Use our moving checklist to make sure everything goes smoothly.
BEFORE LISTING YOUR HOUSE
* Clean, clean, clean! To save yourself time and stress, consider having Neat Freaks out to do a listing prep clean.
*Pack and purge. Pack away things you want to keep but don’t need to have handy while the house is on the market. Purge things you no longer use…no sense in moving them with you!
*Set the stage. “Stage” your home to look like a place someone would want to live–think model home. Minimize clutter, personal pictures or decorating. Clean off counters, clean out cabinets. A quick Febreeze of the whole house before you leave for a showing will leave it smelling fresh and clean.
WHEN YOU’RE UNDER CONTRACT AT YOUR NEW PLACE
*As soon as you have a closing date, schedule the following: doggy day care/kennel for moving day(s), moving company, MOVE-OUT clean (because the last thing you want to do after moving all your things out is have to go back and clean your old place), MOVE-IN clean (because the last thing you want to do before you can move into your new place is have to clean it top to bottom). Because of scheduling, these things need to be booked with as much advanced notice as possible.
*Arrange for change of address, transfer of utilities, cable, etc.
*Label, label, label! Mark every box with the name of the room in which it belongs in the new house. This will save you time searching through boxes as you unpack.
MOVING OUT OF STATE?
*Take care of all of your family members’ personal needs (Ex: doctor’s appointments, haircuts, dental cleanings, etc.) before you leave so that you don’t have to rush to find new service providers right away.
